About 1 hour from our hotel, you can see the country’s largest area of tropical dry forest, with caves for exploring, pristine beaches and basic camping facilities. It was the first national park established in Costa Rica, created in 1971. The Interamerican Highway (Pan-American Highway) is along its eastern edge, where the adjacent Guanacaste National Park is located. The beach at Naranjo is also famous for surfing, and the area near witch’s rock was a filming location for the cult surfing classic ‘Endless Summer II.’ There is also a history museum in the park. From outside the park you can arrange scuba-diving trips to Islas Murciélago, (the Bat Islands), off the Santa Elena Peninsula.
